After the battle with Devidramon, Takato tries to make Growlmon de-digivolve into Guilmon, but all to no avail. When it begins to rain, Takato despairs of ever getting his old friend back. However, when the rain ends, Growlmon de-digivolves into Guilmon while watching the rainbow.
The first minute or so, with the intimidating figure of Growlmon, shows great promise, but after that the episode shows its true colors (something I&#39;d like to know is why the other kids just disappeared since the end of the last one). It&#39;s nearly devoid of action, doesn&#39;t add anything to the story or characters, relies on hit-and-miss humor and, perhaps worst of all, retreads just about everything that has already been done multiple times. Let&#39;s see, Takato tries to hide his digimon, only for him to disappear…check…Rika shows up to make everyone look foolish…check…Takato cries about his digimon…check.<br/><br/>It&#39;s not like this is a new thing, since the first two seasons were also somewhat repetitive during the first stretch of episodes, but the difference there is that the focus shifted. Out of these last 9 episodes, only 3 have truly focused on individuals other than Takato, a fact that is not helped by his stagnant personality and virtually non-existent life outside of his antics with these monsters.<br/><br/>But on a more basic level, I would argue that a premise that revolves around trying to get a docile digimon to devolve is simply too mundane to work, which is only exacerbated by the utter pointlessness. Growlmon&#39;s feral demeanor at the start is the only thing that will have some ramifications down the line, and does not necessitate the subsequent drudgery. Also, Henry&#39;s insistence on hiding Growlmon in the tunnel is kind of dumb. He believes the last incident there was just a fluke because…why, now? There are a couple of things that work. The scene with Takato talking to Jeri is actually the funniest one, mainly because of Jeri&#39;s speculation on what he was talking about, though it&#39;s marred by the unnecessary use of her hand puppet. Also, the final scene, though contrived, works better than it should because the animation and soundtrack are both pleasant (too bad the voice actors wouldn&#39;t shut up during the final few moments).
